My Personal Top 10 -- Saturday Morning Programs

Saturday Mornings -- the safest place for a child to be in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Long before NBC gave up on cartoons, ABC aired recycled Japanese martial arts fare, and television shows were rated, Saturday morning cartoons entertained, and yes, even informed a generation of children. Time for Timer, anyone? Schoolhouse Rock? In the News (bonus points for those who remember the name of the faceless anchor)? HELP (Dr. Henry's Emergency Lessons for People)? Here are my Personal Top Ten Saturday morning programs.

1. The Smurfs
2. Super Friends
3. Kid Super Power Hour with Shazam!
4. Ark II
5. Various Sid and Marty Krofft productions (Electawoman and Dynagirl, Dr. Shrinker)
6. Challenge of the Superfriends
7. The Godzilla Power Hour
8. Plasticman
9. Spiderman and his Amazing Friends
10. 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo

Hmmm… Saturday mornings really WERE better in the 60s/70s--Josie and the Pussycats? (And its sequel "Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space"?) Herculoids? Now THAT was quality kids' programming.
