Personal Top Ten's Link of the Week

Heard about this on National Public Radio's weekly show "Wait, Wait..." Even the most revered of news agencies need to follow up on the use of their technology! Click on the image of the article to enlarge.

My Personal Top 10 -- Breakfast Cereals

Yeah, so waking up on Saturday morning to sit and warm up by the glow of the 19-inch Trinitron was nothing without your bowl of cereal and milk! These were simpler times, times when men and women weren't afraid to buy their kids cereal sweetened with SUGAR! Here are my Personal Top 10 breakfast cereals...

1. Waffle-Os -- what, never heard of them? Then you don't know Waffleo Bill, neither!

2. Quisp -- something about an alien with a propeller on its head that gets the AM off right!

3. Cinnamon Life -- because life must have flavor!

4. Cocoa Krispies -- may Smedley rest in peace! I trumpet happily in his memory.

5. Super SUGAR Crisp/Smacks -- not Golden Crisp, not Honey Smacks, dammit!

6. Honeycomb -- for a big, big taste in a big, big bite...

7. Alpha-Bits -- spell my name, *&%$#

8. Cinnamon Toast Crunch -- who needs French toast when you can have these?

9. Count Chocula -- who did Boo Berry piss off?

10. Lucky Charms -- still magically delicious!

My Personal Top 10 -- Saturday Morning Programs

Saturday Mornings -- the safest place for a child to be in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Long before NBC gave up on cartoons, ABC aired recycled Japanese martial arts fare, and television shows were rated, Saturday morning cartoons entertained, and yes, even informed a generation of children. Time for Timer, anyone? Schoolhouse Rock? In the News (bonus points for those who remember the name of the faceless anchor)? HELP (Dr. Henry's Emergency Lessons for People)? Here are my Personal Top Ten Saturday morning programs.

1. The Smurfs
2. Super Friends
3. Kid Super Power Hour with Shazam!
4. Ark II
5. Various Sid and Marty Krofft productions (Electawoman and Dynagirl, Dr. Shrinker)
6. Challenge of the Superfriends
7. The Godzilla Power Hour
8. Plasticman
9. Spiderman and his Amazing Friends
10. 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo

My Personal Top 10 -- Singles of 1984

1984 -- a pivotal year in my life. Turned 13, voice finally settled down, decided I was in ok shape to wear shorts. Music changed my life this year -- music videos were on cable and free TV (anyone remember Friday Night Videos?), pop reached a crescendo, hair bands stopped teasing (their hair) and rose to the top of the charts, artists on the fringe entered the mainstream and swam like fish, some escaped the shadows of their earlier career and basked in the sunlight, and everyone was wearing 'virgin' bands and straight-leg pants. 1984 -- the peak of late 20th Century popular music...here's my personal top 10.

1. When Doves Cry -- Prince
2. China Girl -- David Bowie
3. One Night in Bangkok -- Murray Head
4. Careless Whisper -- Wham!
5. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun -- Cyndi Lauper
6. Relax -- Frankie Goes to Hollywood
7. Like a Virgin -- Madonna
8. Shout -- Tears for Fears
9. What's Love Got to Do with It? -- Tina Turner
10. Somebody's Watching Me -- Rockwell
